Effectiveness of the farmer promoter approach to increase food security among farmers

a case study of Gihango sector in Rutsiro district, Rwanda

Samenvatting

The small farmer in Rutsiro District, Rwanda faces the problem of food insecurity. For solving this issue, the Rwandan government through the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources (MINAGRI) has launched the Farmer Promoter Approach (FPA) for increasing their food production and income in order to help farmers to be food secure. Since 2014, the way of operating of the Farmer Promoter Approach’s in Rutsiro District is based on the installation of demonstration plots and the creation of farmers groups called locally Twigire groups. However the effectiveness of the approach for increasing food security has not been assessed. In that sense, the study aims to assess the effectiveness of the Farmer Promoter Approach for increasing food security among farmers.
