Factors affecting female enrolment in TVET male dominated courses

Samenvatting

In Rwanda, the education system is characterized by a good representation of women as the gender parity index in education is to the advantage of girls. Policies allowed to favour an increase of female enrolment in general secondary school, but the government, through the Ministry of Education, sets now a priority on TVET. Indeed, TVET is characterised by low female enrolment, particularly in traditional male dominated courses, where the education targets are not achieved, and National Institute of Statistics in Rwanda (2021) showed that girls represent only 16% of total trainees in traditional male dominated courses. This research had the objective of gaining knowledge into the factors affecting female enrolment in TVET male dominated courses in Muhanga District of Rwanda.
