Summary

The second demographic transition is all around. However, in certain regions in the Northern Netherlands the aging of the population is accelerated as a result of unbalanced population decline. Even though sometimes population in these declining areas increases, caused by temporary development (shortage on the housing market, COVID), longterm trends are still showing a constant declining of the population. What are the socioeconomic consequences of decades of unbalanced population decline?
