Summary

Kenya has progressed well in food safety implementation in the horticultural export market. However, unlike the international export chains, the enforcement of food safety measures in the domestic chain encounter problems like multiple regulations, duplication of roles between agencies, contradictory requirements, and lack of coordination. This study on the promotion of producer organisations for food safety adoption seeks to seal the gap of weak government surveillance. The research questions covered the domestic mango value chain governance food safety enforcement and opportunities for producer organisations for improved adoption of food safety among the small-scale farmers.
